MoonSwatch: every model from Snoopy to gold

Saturday, 26 March 2022: outside Swatch stores from Edinburgh to Singapore, hundreds of people are queuing. They all want the same watch, a colourful tribute to the first watch worn on the Moon. Welcome to the MoonSwatch, the watch with planets, Snoopy and even real gold.

At a glance

  • The MoonSwatch by OMEGA x Swatch looks like the OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch, but it is made of Bioceramic and has a quartz movement with a stopwatch.
  • At launch there were 11 models, named after the Sun, the Moon and the planets. New ones keep arriving, for example with Snoopy.
  • The gold models feature Moonshine Gold, OMEGA's own 18-carat alloy.
  • The MoonSwatch 1969 exists only 1,969 times, with 11 grams of gold.
  • At Bodinos many models are ready to ship, including the dive watches by Blancpain x Swatch.

How did the Moon end up on your wrist?

The original is the OMEGA Speedmaster. In 1965, NASA qualified it for crewed space flights. On 21 July 1969, Buzz Aldrin wore his Speedmaster on the Moon, and it has been called the Moonwatch ever since. Neil Armstrong, by the way, had left his in the lunar module as a backup.

In 2022, Swatch reimagined this icon: same shape, but made of Bioceramic. Bioceramic is two-thirds ceramic and one-third a material based on castor oil. Add a quartz chronograph movement, a 42 mm case and the names of both brands on the dial.

Planets, Pluto and a huge hype

The first 11 models are a little trip through the solar system:

Yes, Pluto made it too, even though it has officially been classed as a dwarf planet since 2006. The fans didn't mind: according to Swatch, more than one million MoonSwatches were sold by the end of 2022. We also stock some models with an ostrich leather strap, for example the Mission to the Sun.

Why is Snoopy lying on the Moon?

April 1970, Apollo 13: after an explosion on board, the astronauts have to save power, so the electronic timers on board are switched off. For a course correction, the engine has to burn for exactly 14 seconds. They time it with the Speedmaster. The crew gets home safely, and in October 1970 OMEGA receives the astronauts' "Silver Snoopy Award" for it.

That's why Snoopy has been lounging on the MoonSwatch since March 2024: on the Mission to the Moonphase, all in white as the Full Moon and in black as the New Moon. He lies on the moon phase display at 2 o'clock, and there is a paw print on the battery cover.

Tip: Hold a UV torch over the moon phase of the Snoopy MoonSwatch. A hidden line from a 1962 Snoopy comic strip appears: "I can't sleep without a night light!" On the MoonSwatch 1965, too, numbers light up under UV light.

Gold for the full moon: the Moonshine Gold models

Moonshine Gold is OMEGA's own 18-carat gold alloy, introduced in 2019 for the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing. It is paler than classic yellow gold because it contains more silver and palladium and less copper.

The gold came to the MoonSwatch in March 2023: on the Mission to Moonshine Gold, the stopwatch seconds hand is golden. According to Swatch, these hands are made at full moon. The first day of sale was 7 March 2023, only in Tokyo, Zurich, Milan and London.

In August 2025 came the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold. Here the two moons of the moon phase display are made of gold, and next to them Snoopy and Woodstock look at Earth from the Moon. More versions followed for the next full moons. In September, for the "Corn Moon", one of the moons turned into popcorn. We have exactly this popcorn version at Bodinos.

MoonSwatch 1969: gold with a past

On 16 July 2026, exactly 57 years after the launch of Apollo 11, Swatch presented the Mission to the Moon 1969. The case is matte black Bioceramic. The dial, hands, crown and pushers are made of 18-carat Moonshine Gold, 11 grams in total. According to Swatch, the gold comes from old OMEGA spare parts that were melted down.

The back tells a story too: the gold-coloured battery cover shows the date of the Moon landing and a footprint in the Sea of Tranquility, where Apollo 11 landed. The black Velcro strap is gold-coloured on the inside, with a texture like the lunar surface.

Simply walk into a shop and buy one? Not possible. Swatch asked for an application called ESTA, short for "Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application", a play on the entry form for the USA. 32 questions about space travel, Swatch and OMEGA, with applications open from 16 to 21 July 2026.

1.2m

applications were reportedly received for the 1,969 watches. That's more than 600 people per watch.

Each of the 1,969 watches is numbered. At Bodinos we have the MoonSwatch 1969 in the shop, so take a look right away to see if it's still there.

Note on private purchases: no right of withdrawal and usually no legal guarantee. Check the photos, box and papers carefully. At Bodinos you have a 14-day right of withdrawal and the legal guarantee.

MoonSwatch 1965: happy birthday, Speedmaster

On 1 March 2025 came the MoonSwatch 1965, 60 years after NASA qualified the Speedmaster. Grey Bioceramic, white dial, black bezel. The sub-dials show the numbers 19 and 65, and they light up under UV light. Unlike the 1969, it is not a limited edition.

Prefer the water? Blancpain x Swatch

On 9 September 2023 the next collaboration started: the Scuba Fifty Fathoms by Blancpain x Swatch, based on the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms dive watch from 1953. Unlike the MoonSwatch, it runs on a mechanical automatic movement, the SISTEM51 with around 90 hours of power reserve.

91 m

"Fifty fathoms" is an old nautical measure of depth. That's around 91 metres, and the Scuba Fifty Fathoms is water-resistant to exactly that depth.

The first five models are named after the oceans: Arctic, Antarctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean. Then it went cosmic: the Ocean of Storms is named after Oceanus Procellarum, the largest "sea" on the Moon. Later, Blue Lagoon and Green Abyss joined them.

And the Royal Pop?

Since May 2026 there has also been the Royal Pop by Swatch and Audemars Piguet, a pocket watch inspired by the Royal Oak. You can read all about it in our guide Swatch x Audemars Piguet Royal Pop.
